ICT and Digital Literacy

At T-TEL we are dedicated to equipping teachers with the tools and knowledge they need to embrace ICT and Digital Literacy. We believe that by equipping teachers, we are shaping a generation of digitally literate learners who are ready to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, ICT and Digital Literacy have become indispensable components of the secondary education curriculum. At T-TEL, we are committed to spearheading this transformation in partnership with GSET, CENDLOS, GES, and NTC. At T-TEL we are dedicated to equipping teachers with the tools and knowledge they need to embrace ICT and Digital Literacy. We believe that by equipping teachers, we are shaping a generation of digitally literate students who are ready to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Our Approach:
Our approach is to seamlessly integrate ICT and relevant technology into the teaching and learning environment of schools, ensuring that teachers and learners are well-equipped for the world of work including the digital future. Our work on ICT and digital literacy is led by GSET in partnership with CENDLOS, GES and NTC. Our work is focused at two main levels:
In-Service Teachers
T-TEL supported NTC, GES and CENDLOS to develop a Digital Literacy (ICT Integration) Handbook as a step by step ‘do it your self’ guide for use by teachers across the country. Two volumes of the ICT Integration handbooks have been developed.
- Volume 1: Digital Literacy Handbook is targeted at beginner teachers with limited knowledge on digital skills to introduce them to basic tools.
- Volume 2: Digital Learning Handbook is targeted at intermediate teachers to guide them through how to integrate ICT in their lesson delivery.
To further facilitate accessibility, utilisation, and uptake of these handbooks we are undertaking a needs assessment of all teachers in senior high and senior high technical schools to develop targeted programmes and training modules to address their needs. The handbooks are also being digitised and rolled out across all senior high and senior high technical schools to ensure that teachers across the nation can master the skills outlined in the handbooks.
Building upon our experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are collaborating with GSET and CENDLOS to digitise the new secondary education curriculum. We are developing interactive online modules that will complement weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions held in the senior high and senior technical schools. Additionally, we are supporting to establishing a community of practice of digital champions also known as troubleshooters in senior high and senior high technical schools through regular online forums and training to enable them to provide subject specific advice and support to other teachers in their schools.
We are working to ensure that all teachers are provided with the support and guidance needed to be able to make use of available devices (laptops, tablets, mobile phones, projectors etc.), so that digital literacy is fully integrated within teaching and learning.
Pre-Service
Recognising the critical need for early integration of digital skills, we are addressing the gap in pre-service teacher training. Too often, the focus remains on in-service training, leading to new teachers entering classrooms without proficient digital skills. To address this, we are actively working with GTEC and the universities to infuse digital literacy and ICT-enabled pedagogy into their training programs. By enhancing the teacher education curriculum, we will ensure that the next generation of teachers is well-prepared to leverage technology effectively in the classroom.
